My dear Mrs. Sewall
After due consideration of the subject with Mr. Wilcox, I have arrived at the conclusion that it would be wholly inconsistent with our ideas of duty -- to give $100 to the purpose you suggested.
I am not able to do this, & do other private duties I wish to.

Mr. Wilcox & myself both have relatives whom we would like to treat to a trip to Chicago -- $100 would enable my brother & his wife to see the Fair -- a pleasure denied them unless I furnish the means.
My niece now in her second year at school under my care financially would doubtless be greatly benefited by a visit to this Exposition.

all the duties I am forced to do -- remains to be seen. I would be most unwise to take a foreign expense of that amount upon myself & I can not see that I ought to do it.
With Mr. Wilcox large family of needy relatives, I am sure I could not allow him to subscribe for me. His lovely neice -- whom we sent through Kindergarden training, hoping she could become self supporting is

struggling in her first unpaying private school & longing to attend the Fair to study the Kinder garden exhibition there. I would think the $100 better used in sending her.
I wish I might be in-spired to write a poem for you, but I have not felt any impetus toward it yet.
With sincere regrets that I can not do all I am asked to do and hoping to meet you again some day.
Yours
