Excuse the delay of my answering your lovely letter - but we have been away from the [ranch?] and only recieved your message the day before yesterday.
Of course I shall do all you tell me to do, and I thank

you for the honor of placing me on the list of Patrons of the National Council of Women. I have carefully studied the little [?] [?] and am only afraid my engagements may sometimes prevent me from fulfilling my Patron's duties.
However I stall try to do my best. I have sent my first installment to Mrs. Hanna Bailey. I am sorry it is not the whole sum, but we

just have had a considerable experience in bringing from Europe my brother a family of five, who could not succeed in the old country. I am trying to make a nice home from them and find positions for the children who are very talented, indeed.
O! that war! I am so broken hearted over it and often think of you and your lofty dreams. Last time we took breakfast at your home you spoke of associations of races and we both

returned to the hotel under the strong impression of your words. Poor ideals! will they ever be realized? Will ever civilization give us what we expect from its influence? Let us hope it will. For my part I am ready to give up my own self to your ideas and cry to the last breath "Excelsior!" Yes, I am with you heart and soul - my lovely friend.
