STEAD, Wm T JULY 23, 1900

39 rue de Chateaudun Paril July 23.1900.

Dear Mrs Sewall.

I shall of course be at you reception tomorrow night, and will be charmed to be one of your guests at dinner, but not on false pretences. I was simply appalled when I read your suggestion that I should assist in drawing up the menu. If you are an inbecile in such matters I am anatural born idiot. My only contribution to that is to ask you to let me bring Mdlle de Pratz as one of my guests, and she will fix up a menu for she is perfectly at home in all that kind of thing. I am writing to her, she is at St Germain, asking her to come; but if you dissaprove of this I can telegraph her in the morning and stop her. I have not seen anybody yet so I cannot say who my other guest will be, but possibly I shall discover him or her before the time comes.

Yours sincerely WT Stead
