Superintendent's duties

The Committee appointed for the purpose begs
leave to report the following abstract of the
duties of the Superintendent.

He is expected to
devote his whole time to the duties of his office
He is charged with the whole care of the grounds
is to suffer no waste or strip to be made to see
that all persons in the employ of the Proprietors
faithfully perform their duties -- that good order is
preserved throughout the Cemetery by Visitors &
others & to report to the Trustees all violations of
the Rules & Regulations, [He is personally responsi-
ble for the preservation of the trees & is to allow none
to be cut down or removed but with the approba-
tion of the Committee on lots, and the wood from
all which may be cut down or trimmed shall be
accounted for to the Treasurer.] He is to keep regular
& accurate records of all Interments, of Monuments
erected & lots improved by being inclosed, sodded
or otherwise; and also of all moneys disbursed
& of all moneys received by him, whether for fees
improvement of lots, sales of brush or wood, for
plants or other articles furnished, or services rendered
said accounts to be kept in the books provided
for the purpose. He is on the first day of Jany,
April, July & October, or oftner [sic] if thereto required
to render to the Treasurer copies of Said accounts
and pay over to him all moneys remaining in
his hands, He is to lodge & board in his family
such numbers of laborers as may be employed

VERY interesting comments about removing trees and not selling the resulting wood without approval of the Treasurer, and of the Supts. responsibility to "lodge & board in his family

I made enough changes that I didn't uncheck "Review Needed" box. I found the job description for the Super to be Draconian. The Trustees must have had a bad experience with Mr. Russell (first Super) that they would need that level of detail, which eliminates any hope that the person hired would exhibit common sense or good judgment.
