Newcastle Jany 22/87
Mr Tilton Esquire
Deputy Minister of Fisheries
Ottawa

Sir

In reply to yours of 19th
Inst "asking for the number of salmon
trout ova secured at Pigeon Island
last fall: and whether the lessee of
the Fishery (P. [Toy?]) rendered any
assistance in procurring them?
I beg to state that the no. of trout
ova gathered at Pigeon Island
accounted to some 1,5000,000
and that

Mr Patrick [Toy?] rendered
most satisfactory service in assisting
the employees sent to that fishing
station to gather ova: and in
addition I may further state
that Mr [Toy?] has in former years
rendered similar advantageous
help; and were it not for Mr
[Toys?] willing assistance and hearty
cooperation, the quantities of ova
usually collected at Pigeon Island
could have not been secured.

I am sir, Yours Obedly
Sam Wilmot
Supt

At the start of the fifth line of the second paragraph, the word in question looks like 'deleterio';but that makes no sense as Mr Wilmott is praising the gentleman for his efforts.

“In addition” - he crossed the t with quite the flourish!
