Referring to your letter of 22nd
[Jan?]: asking for a statement showing
1st No. of parent fish obtained at each hatchery;
2nd Cost of obtaining such fish;
3rd. No. of ova laid down at each hatchery.

I now beg to send this return; and
have also added more particulars
relating to the subject, in order that,
your Department may be informed
as to the relative number of the sexes; -
the average number of eggs taken from each
female; the cost of each fish at the
several hatcheries and the estimated
cost per thousand of the different
species of ova gathered at each of
the establishments.

This schedule, which I have
endeavoured to make out as correctly as
it is possible to do so, from the several returns
which I have received as embodied in the
Annual reports from the several officers in
charge; (which reports have just come to hand)
and whilst the schedule has given me
