[...] supplies of parent salmon from the [?]
river in June, July, August.

St. John River [...] At No. 5 St. John River Hatchery
in N.B., the exorbitant cost of parent fish
and eggs is beyond all precedent, each
fish taken accounting to about [$17.18?] with
the corresponding high rate of $5.68 [per thousand?]
for eggs: the uselessness and costliness
of the method of procuring eggs for the
St. John Hatchery should forfeit its
continuance; especially when [?]
are at hand at the estuary fisheries
of the river, to readily supply parent fish,
in like manner as at Tadoussac
Gaspe, and Restigouche.

Magog [...] At No 10, Magog Hatchery, no
effort was made to obtain eggs there, in the
anticipation of getting full supplies of
salmon [?] over from [?] which
[?] to be collected at Wiarton - [?]:
anticipation will be only practically
realized from the non fulfillment of
certain arrangements made with [?]
[C.W.?] to capture parent fish.

Newcastle [...] At No 11. Newcastle hatchery the
average cost of salmon [?] eggs [?]
collected at the two stations is thus -
at Wiarton [George..?] Bay 36 [?]
at [Pigeon?] Island Lake Ontario 17 3/4 do.
Upon the calculation, that the [?]

at Wiarton as in 1885; if the trap nets were
operated during the whole of the month
of November last as contracted for, the
cost of the salmon [?] ova would
have been reduced to 9 per thousand
instead of 36 per [?] as at present
[related?].

Sandwich [...] No 12. Sandwich White-fish
hatchery: - here forty six millions
of White-fish Eggs were collected at a
cost of about $438.00 or barely one
cent per thousand - these were
also deposited in the nursery
[save] twenty-five millions of
pickerel ([?]) Eggs during the past
year, costing about $315.00 or about
1 1/4 per [thousand?].

Trusting that the

will give some additional in-
formation to your department
relative to the subject of fish
