[Than?] our North Shore [problem?];
I cannot explain to you my reasons
in full here, but I have written [largely?]
on the subject in my report which is
now being printed. My idea is
that, the Detroit river white fish business
must eventually die out, given the fact
that, all fish coming to the Detroit
river to spawn will in turn be taken
by the immense numbers of trap nets
in use at the head of the lake;- It
will be seen from the evidence of
some 40 practical fisherman from
Munro, Toledo, Sandusky, and
East as far as Erie. For the [gtain?]
Catch of White fish have been [wonderfully?]
increased up to 1884; and they
all say that, the credit is to be given
to the hatcheries:- Now as to the crop
of fish taken in 1884, your Hatchery
has turned out nearly 90 per cent
more young fish than all the
American hatcheries put together.
This will go to show that, our young
fish put in the river are carried to
the Southern side principally, and
remain there till they [get their?]
growth:- To meet this I have advised
the Dept to have all of our crop
of fry put in at [Toronto?] on the

North side of the Lake [?] [?]
object to some being put in Lake
St. Clair, and also a few in the
Detroit River, but I feel satisfied
not one young White fish but is

down with the strong current right
into the head waters of Lake Erie;

Enough however of this at
present, you will see all my views
on this subject in my report, and
I think they carry good common
sense with them certainly the
South Shore fisheries are being
[?] increased, but I hear nothing

Mill [?] project for Pickerel – I think
you had better drop a line about
it, direct to the Deputy Minister in
Ottawa, and if he asks me I
can then answer him. You
had better however make your
arrangements about where you
are to put your Pickerel this [spring?]
