W.P.P. Longfellow Esq

Dear Sir

The base for the
Longfellow monument was set ac-
cording to a mark placed on it by
the makers, so that if there is any
mistake about the amount which
shows above the turf, I do not think
it is owing to any fault here.

I suppose it would be possible
to raise the grade of the lot,
but I should be sorry to see it
done, as the lot now stands higher
than the adjoining lots, and [?]
it on such high land, that it
is very difficult to make the
grass do well during the hot month.
I do not think the alteration could
be made for less than $35 to $40.
and I should not suppose it would
cost much if any more to take
down & reset the monument.

Yrs very truly
J.W. Lovering
