Mine be the generous heart
Which ne'er one Feeling learnt to feign
With "Self respecting art"

Petition of the Isle of Wight Ladies to
H: R: H: The D: of Y:

Humbly Sheweth,

That your hapless Petitioners safety demands
The immediate dispatch of your royal commands,
As Men cannot be granted to guard them from harm,
And they long have been kept in a state of alarm..
From tumults within, and expected invasions,
All wch answer no doubt Ministerial [occasions?].

With yr Highness's leave we thus humbly propose,
To rise in a body and wait for our Foes.
And like Heroines of old, who are History's boast,
Drive these teacherous Invaders away from our
coast.
