At the meeting of Council, held in the Convocation Hall
on Decr 5th at 4 P.M., the Chancellor in the Chair, after prayer
and a Certified Minute of the Board of Trustees anent the
appointment of the Principal had been read, the questions necessary
under Statute 39 were put by the Chancellor to Mr. Grant, who
expressed his willingness to sign the usual declaration. The
Chancellor then declared the Revd G.M. Grant Principal of Queen's
University, and presented to him the various Professors.

At Eight O'clock the Council reassembled in the City
Hall. The Chancellor in the Chair delivered an address to
the Principal.

Afterwards the Very Revd Principal delivered his inaugural address.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, the
Aesculapian Society, and other Societies, presented to the Principal
Congratulatory addresses, to which suitable replies were made.

Addresses also were made to the crowded and enthusiastic
assembly by the Revd Principal Caven of Knox College,
the Revd Principal McVicar of Montreal, the Revd Dr. Jenkins,
the Rt. Honble. Sir J.A. Macdonald, Dr. Sullivan, Mr. John Carruthers,
Mr. James Croil, and the Revd R. Campbell.
