Monday Eleven O'Clock A.M
Kingston January 17th 1887.
The first meeting of the Council elect of the Corporation of
the City of Kingston was held this day. Present
John Carson Esquire Mayor elect
Aldermen
Cataraqui Ward
Daniel Phelan, William M. Drennan and Frederick L. Rees
Frontenac Ward
James Duncan Thompson, Nathaniel Wilmot & William Robinson
Ontario Ward
William Wilson, Charles F. Smith and Thomas H. McGuire
Redeau Ward
John McIntyre, Christopher Robinson, and William Snowden
Saint Lawrence Ward
James Redden, [strikeout]John McKay[/strikeout] and George S. Hobart
(elected by acclamation)
Sydenham Ward
John S. Muckleston, William Harty and Charles Gildersleeve
(elected by acclamation)
Victoria Ward
Joseph Hiscock, Robert W. Shannon and James Downing
John Duff Esquire Police administered the
declarations of qualification and office to the Mayor
elect.
Whereupon The Mayor John Carson Esquire took
the Chair and administered the declarations to the Aldermen
elect - except Alderman John McKay of St. Lawrence Ward
who was absent owing to illness
The Mayor then addressed the Council
A Communication from Joseph E. Clark was read
applying for the position of Auditor of the City
The Mayor nominated Adam McArthur as his
Auditor
On motion of Ald. Harty seconded by Ald. Thompson
Ordered, That Joseph E. Clark be the Councils
Auditor for 1887 and that the nomination of Adam
McArthur as auditor for the Mayor be Confirmed by
the Council
On motion of Ald. Gildersleeve seconded by Ald. Harty
Ordered, That the sum of One thousand dollars
be placed to the Credit of the Committee on Streets for
general expenses
Ald. Gildersleeve moves seconded by Ald. Harty
That Messrs. McIntyre, Shannon, Hobart, Wilson
Thompson, Harty and the mover be a committee to
strike the standing Committees for the year and that
the Council stand adjourned for fifteen minutes
to receive their report
