Kingston June 23rd 1887

A Special Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of
the City of Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship The Mayor

Aldermen

Downing, Harty, Hiscock, Muckleston, Swift
McIntyre, Phelan, Redden, Rees, Shannon
Smith, Snowden, Thompson, Wilmot, Wilson

The Mayor stated the meeting was called to take up
general business

A Communicatioin from John Holmes was read Re
Compensation for land, referred to the Committee on Streets

A Communication from A. P. Knight was read (Acting
Secretary Collegiate Institute) asking for a sum of money
to be placed to Credit of the Board to pay salaries - Referred
to the Committee on Finance

A Communication from William Irving Esquire was read
tendering his resignation

On motion of Mr Ald. Thompson seconded by Ald. Wilson

Ordered, That the resignation of William Irving City
Engineer be accepted and that no action as to a successor be
taken until the [?] of Arbitrators on Water Works be given

A Communication from James A Henderson Esquire
was read asking for the removal of stones off lot No 4 on the
East side of Redan street - Referred to the Committee on
Streets.

Ald. Smith brought up the petition of Peter Devlin
asking for permission to get Bowling Alley License on
Wellington street

On motion of Ald. Smith seconded by Ald. Swift

Ordered, That the petition of Peter Devlin be referred
to the license Committee with power to act.

Ald. Gildersleeve here entered

Ald. Thompson introduced a Report by the City Engineer
of the value of the land on West street owned by J. A. Carruthers
Esquire required for the opening of said street

On motion of Ald. Thompson seconded by Ald. Wilson

Ordered, That the property of J. Bill Carruthers
be accepted by the City for the purpose of widening West
street as recommended by Wm Irving City Engineer in his
letter of this date and that the Finance Committee be requested
to provide funds to Complete the purchase and transfer of said
property to the City, the sum to be provided & paid to be twelve
hundred - the property to be deeded to City as per plan submitted

On motion of Ald. Redden seconded by Ald. Rees

Ordered, That the Mayor be authorised to appoint an
Arbitator for the opening up and extensiion of Sydenham st
from Johnson to Brock st

The Chairman from the Court of Revision brought up a
