A Special meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City
of Kingston was held this day Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Drennan, Downing, Gildersleeve, Harty, Hiscock
Hobart, Muckleston, Swift, McIntyre, Phelan, Redden
Rees, C. Robinson, W. Robinson, Shannon, [strikethrough] Smith [/strikethrough] Snowden
Thompson, Wilmot, Wilson
The Mayor stated the meeting was called to receive Report
of the Water Works Committee and other business
A Communication from W.S. Gordon City Commissioner
was read Re Nuisance ground and enclosing communication
of John Kirkpatrick agreeing to take [insert] care [/insert] of Nuisance ground for
one year for the sum of One hundred dollars
On motion of Ald. Hiscock seconded by Ald. Wilson
Ordered, That the Tender of John Kirkpatrick be accepted
A Communication from C.J. Graham Taxes was read and referred
to the Court of Revision
A Report from W.S. Gordon City Commissioner submitting
statement of tests made in weighing coal was read
Ald. Shannon brought up the petition of the Montreal
Transportation company asking the Council to consent to their
using the ways at Portsmouth to do some work
On motion of Ald. Shannon seconded by Ald. Harty
Ordered, That the petition of The Montreal Transportation
Company be received and that permission be granted
for them to do any work in "Portsmouth the coming" Winter
that cannot be done in their shipping yard in Kingston
which according to their agreement with the City they have
a right to do.
Ald. Thompson brought up the petition of
Jonathan Taylor and 54 others relative to the width
of tires on their cart wheels and stating they are
suffering from under competition.
On motion of Ald. Thompson seconded by Ald. C. Robinson
Ordered, that with respect to the petition of the
Carters that the Police Commissioners be respectfully requested
to not enforce the resolution passed by them at a meeting
[margin] MF [/margin] lately held but that the carters be [checkmark] [strikethrough] advised [/strikethrough] allowed to use the wheels
now in use until worn out, all new wheels procured from this
date to be of the regulation width as provided by statute
and that the other matter referred to in petition be referred to
committee on License to report.
Ald. Gildersleeve from the Select Committee on
[margin] MF [/margin] Water Works brought up the report [insert] (No 494 1/2 Book F) [/insert] [strikethrough] of [/strikethrough] in connection
with the Water Works Department which was read
