A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston
was held this day Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Carson, Cruggan, Drennan, Fenwick, Gaskin, Gildersleeve
Harty, Hiscock, Minnes, McCammon, McIntyre, McLeod
Polson, Rees, C. Robinson, W. Robinson, Shannon, Swift
Wilson

The Clerk read the Minutes of the last Meeting
Communications were read as follows: _

From C R W Biggar, City Solicitors officer Toronto forwarding
copies of Bills to be submitted to the Legislature of Ontario at its
present session to amend assessment, Municipal and School Acts
Referred to the City Solicitor

From R.B. Hamilton Secretary Sault Ste Marie Water, Light and Power
Company inviting the Council to the opening display of the first [?]
incandescent Electric Light system introduced into Canada. there was
no action taken therein

From the Rt. Honorable Sir John A Macdonald MP. acknowledging
receipt of extract from resolution of Council Re advisability of granting
reciprocity in wrecking _

From Dr. E.H Smtyhe Secretary Collegiate Institute _ Re investigation
as to reflections cast upon Trustees _ Referred to the Committee on Schools

From Joseph E Clarke Secretary and Treasurer requesting the
Corporation to pay over the three thousand dollars voted for prelimary
expenses in the City By Law the amount being now required.
On Motion of Ald: Harty seconded by Ald: Gaskin
Ordered, that out of the revenue of 1889 the sum
of $3000. be paid to the Kingston, Smith Falls & Ottawa
Ry for preliminary expenses, this amount to be deducted
from the first payment of Principal to which the Co may
become entitled.

From William Gledden License Inspector stating the
number of Tavern Licenses likely to be granted in this City
for the year commencing the 1st of May next.

From John McIntyre Esquire Barrister claiming damages
on behalf of Mrs McCutcheon the Exectrix of the Estate of
her late husband for the destruction of a quantity of potash
there was no action taken thereon.

From George Thompson Collector of Taxes stating
amount of Taxes received to date _ Referred to the Finance
Committee.

From John Campbell respecting the appointment of
a person to perform the plank walking patching for the
year

Aldn Minnes from the Committee on Finance and Accounts
brought up two Reports (Numbers 586 &587 Book F) which
were read and adopted.
