On motion of Ald Harty seconded by Ald Shannon

Whereas the Board of Trustees of the City of Kingston
Collegiate Institute have by their petition to this Council prayed
that this Council do consent that the said Board may surrender
and convey Town lots 130 and 131 in the said City of Kingston
to the Crown unconditionally under the provisions of "the High
Schools Act" in that behalf and it is expedient that the prayer
of the said petition be granted _

Be it therefore resolved by this Council that this
Council do so far as the right and interest of this Municipality
may extend therein grant their consent to the surrender and
conveyance by the said Board to the Crown unconditionally of
the said town lots numbers 130 and 131 accordingly_

The Chairman from the Committee on Streets brought
up a Report (Number 620 Book F) which was read and
adopted.

On Motion of Ald: Gaskin seconded by Ald: C. Robinson
Ordered, that the tender of McMahon Brothers for tete pipe
be accepted although it is higher than the lowest by 3 per cent
but against that we get pipes as they are required, on the other
hand the lowest tender means direct importation and ordering all
the pipes required for the year and keeping them in stock which
we think is not considering the small differences between both
tenders

On Motion of Ald: Gildersleeve seconded by Ald: McIntyre
Ordered, that the Streets Committee report to the Council
as to the Streets which it is advisable should be extended or
straightened and the action advisable to be taken in regard
thereto _

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire, Water
and Light brought up a Report (Number 621 Book F)
which was read

On Motion of Ald: Gildersleeve seconded by Ald: McCammon
Ordered, that the report of the Committee on Fire
Water and Light in regard to street lamps and Fire House
be referred to the Finance Committee to be considered with
the Annual estimates for the year and that the balance of
the report be received and adopted.

On Motion of Ald: Gildersleeve seconded by Ald: Adams
Ordered, that the seventh day of August next
be observed as a Civic Holiday and that the Mayor issue
his proclamation accordingly _

Ald: Muckleston introduced a By Law to partially
exempt Joseph Carringtons Tannery from the payment of Municipal
taxes for a period of five years from the first day of January
1889 which was read a first time.

Ald: Gaskin introduced "a By Law to authorise the construction of a
Common sewer in a part of Princess street in the City of Kingston
as a local improvement under the provisions of the
Municipal Act in that behalf".
