"The consolidated By Laws of the City of Kingston" which was
read a first time

On motion of Ald. Gaskin seconded by Ald. McIntyre
Ordered, that the Mayor be authorized to sign the
petition in duplicate to the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario
embodying suggestions of the Committee On Streets endorsed
by the Council relative to amendments of the Municipal Act
and forward the same with the draft amendments prepared
by the City Solicitor to the representative of the City in the
Provincial Legislature

Ald. Joseph F Swift moves seconded by Ald. Robinson

That this Council whilst deeply regretting the loss
by death of an old and valued public servant in the person
of the late P. Devlin who served the City at the time of his
demise in the capacity of Assistant Chief of the Fire
Department and who for nearly half a century took an active
and prominent part in the perfecting and effective working
of the local fire organization and for twenty five years
of that period served without receiving any remuneration
whatever, be it resolved that this Council hereby authorise the
sum of Five hundred dollars being a sum equivalent to
$20. [underline] 00 [/underline] per year salary for the 25 years which he served without
compensation, be tendered to his Widow as a fitting recognition
of the many valuable services rendered to the Citizens generally
by the old veteran in his capacity as Fireman and that the
Finance Committee be instructed to provide the necessary funds

Ald. Gaskin rose to a point of order and enquired if the
resolution was in order

The Mayor decided that the resolution was not in order

On Motion the Council adjourned
