A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City
of Kingston was held this day. Present

W.S. Gordon Clerk Pro tem read the Minutes of the last
meeting

Communications were read and referred as follows:-

From James Latunney Secretary to Trustee Board stating
the Trustees of Wesley Church Brock street would dispose of the
Church site if the Council would think it favorable for a Fire
station - Referred to the Committee On Fire, Water and Light

From J.H. Metcalfe Esquire M.P.P. Re presenting petitions
to Parliament - acknowledged

From A McLean Esquire Chairman Street Railway Committee
Re Street Railways - Referred to the Committee On Streets.

From George Thompson, Collector of Taxes - stating taxes
collected to date - Referred to the Committee On Finance

From James Agnew Esquire Re appeal cases

From A. McCallum agreeing to furnish a Nuisance
ground - Referred to the Committee On City Property.

From A.J. Lee Re taxes - Referred to the Court of Revision

From John Reeve claiming to be a separate School supporter
Referred to Court of Revision

From James Gough Village clerk, Port Stanley asking the
co-operation of the Council to petition Government to amend
general Railway act to make it compulsory on Railways in
Canada to accept freight and pay vessels charges. Referred
to the Committee On Railways

From A. Haaz & Co Re drainage - Referred to the Committee
on Streets.

On motion of Ald. Gaskin seconded by Ald. Robinson

Ordered That this Council has learned with deep regret
of the death of Mr Wm Nickle one of Kingstons oldest and most
respected residents; that in his demise this City has lost a gentleman
who was among the foremost in aiding and encouraging any
enterprise that was for the benefit of Kingston as witness his
having been a large shareholder in the Montreal Transportation
Company, Saint Laurence River Navigation Company, The Kingston and
Pembroke Railway Company, The Kingston Foundry, The Cotton
Mill all of which have been stimulated by his recognition
both in spirit and in tangible form; that while he was a man who
attended carefully to business he did not neglect his higher
duties towards man and his maker, many in Kingston has

felt.
