for work on streets to only men who in their opinion were
considered right _ The Committee also recommend that
the City Engineer be permitted to do work in the City _
whenever required most irrespective of Wards also the abolition of the asppropriation system to wards, which is working injury
to the City at large and is opposed to the system in vogue
successfully in Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal and other large Cities
to their great advantage in economy and permanent advancements
which being put was lost [Underline]

That the Committee on Streets and Improvements
report back to this Council at its next Meeting what may the
amount of $30 771 35 [Underline 35] provided in Budget is appropriated
and in full of what service in detail _ which being put
was lost [Underline]

Ordered, that the Mayor be empowered to proclaim the
first day of July next Dominion Day a public holiday and
to invite the Citizens generally to observe the day as such
