A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Anglin, Creeggan, Fenwick, Gaskin, Machar, Minnes
Muckleston, McCammon, McIntyre, Osborne, Redden
W. Robinson, Shannon, Steacy, Swift Joseph F., Thompson

The Clerk read the Minutes of the seven last Meetings
A discussion arose as to the Chemical Engine at the late
Fire and if improved or otherwise by the alterations made to it

On Motion of Ald. W. Robinson seconded by Ald. Gaskin
Ordered, that the matter be referred to the Committee
on Fire Water and Light to take the whole thing into consideration
and report.

Communications were read and referred as follows: _

From Messrs Macdonnell & Mudie Barristers requesting
that steps may be taken to comply with the provisions of the Kingston
Smith Falls and Ottawa Railway. _ Referred to the Committee
on Railroads.

From the Board of Trustees of the Kingston Collegiate
Institute asking the Council to provide $25.000 for the erection
of a High School Building _ Referred to the Committee on Finance.

From I.M. Strange asking permission to remove a tree
Referred to the Committee on Streets.

From James Agnew Esquire, City Solicitors _ re
draft of letter Kingston vs Canada Life Insurance Company
On Motion of Ald. Shannon seconded by Ald. Robinson
Ordered, that the judgement of the Court in the
case of Kingston vs Canada Life Assurance Company be
printed and fifty copies struck off and forwarded to
the Councils of such other Ontario Municipalities as the
City Solicitor may direct with a request that they be asked
to say whether they will bear a proportionate share of the
expense in case the Suit is carried to an appeal

From James Agnew City Solicitor enclosing account
Re Canada Life

On Motion of Ald. Shannon seconded by Ald. McIntyre
Ordered, that the City Treasurer be instructed to pay
the taxed costs of the defendants solicitors in the case of
Kingston vs The Canada Life Assurance Company under
the direction of the City Solicitors, without prejudice to the right
of the City to appeal from the judgment herein

From Edwin Horsey, Chief of Police respecting state
of Station House - Referred to the Committee on City
Property.

From the joint secretaries of the Committee appointed
to arrange for the Celebration in Connection with the laying
the first stone of the Dry Dock & submitting financial statements
