pass By Laws for aid upon receipt of petitions for the same
and so that the Councils should have a discretion to pass these
By Laws or not as they chose and so that all such street railways
should be made subject to the provisions of the general act
to authorise the Construction of street railways Chapter 171, R.L.Q.
and so that the amount of the aid which might be granted to
street railway companies should be limited with reference and
relativity to the assessment of the part of the Municipality
concerned and of the assessment and debt of the whole municipality.

Be it also resolved that a petition to the Legislature founded
upon these resolutions be forwarded to the City Members to be presented
to the Legislature.

On motion of Ald. Gaskin seconded by Ald. Polson
Ordered that the Council authorise the City Clerk
to order and this City become a subscriber for the Ontario and
Dominion Gazettes and that the same be placed in the office
of the City Solicitor.

Ald. LaChance from the Committee on City Property brought
up a Report (Number 812 Book F) which was read and adopted.

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Polson
Ordered that the Treasurer be instructed to pay
fifteen hundred dollars on account of broken stone instead
of the five hundred dollars which was passed at the last
meeting of the Council and that each man be paid according
to quantity of stones broken and that all amounts under twenty
dollars be paid in full. Finance Committee be requested to
provide funds for the same.

On motion of Ald Polson seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered that the Mayor is hereby authorised to pay the
paylists duly certified by the City Engineer and by the proper
Chairman, and also the payments falling due under Contracts
certified as required by the terms of the said contracts without waiting
for the action of the Finance Committee, but all such payments made
shall be reported to the said Committee at its first meeting after said
payments have been made for said Committee to pass upon the same.

Ald Polson moves seconded by Ald Steacy
That with a view of enabling members of this Council
to obtain the most ample information respecting the walk carried on
by the Committee on Streets resolved that this be an instruction to said
Committee to submit not later than the 15th May a detailed statement
showing proposed expenditure location and character of walk to be
carried on under the supervision of the Committee on Streets for
the current year which being put was lost.
