The Council went into Committee of the Whole accordingly.

The Council resumed.
The Committee rose and the Chairman reported the Budget
read clause by clause as amended by the following
resolutions:

Ordered, that $400.00 for Special Assistance to
Engineers ordered by this Council be added to the Budget.

On motion of Ald Carson seconded Ald Drennan
Ordered, that the amount charged against the Water
Works for salaries to officials be referred to the Finance Committee
and to apply the same to the different Committees of this Council.

Ald Drennan moves seconded by Ald Gaskin
That the Budget for 1892 as read and amended
be adopted.

In amendments 1st
Ald Polson moves seconded by Ald Hardy
Whereas many citizens resident beyond the line
of the Water Works system are making urgent demands
for Water supply and whereas the appropriation of the
City Council under the plea of paying a portion of the
salaries of certain officials for the sum of six hundred
and twenty five dollars from the funds of the Water Works
Department will have the effect of preventing materially
the extension of a Water supply to parts of the City where
it is most urgently required not only for domestic purposes
but also on Sanitary grounds, be it therefore resolved
that the report be amended by striking out the clause
making such appropriation - which being put was
lost.

Nays: The Mayor; Aldermen: Carson, Creeggan, Drennan,
Dunlop, Gaskin, Herald, McLeod, Skinner - 9

In amendment 2nd
Ald. Polson moves seconded by Ald Behan
That the item granting the sum of Five hundred
dollars to the Central fair be struck out: The Mayor declared
the resolution as a [?] of re-consideration was necessary.

The original resolution (adoption of Budget) being
put was carried.
