Monday 8 o'Clock P.M.
Kingston, May 16th 1892

A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day. Present:

His Worship, the Mayor
Aldermen:
Behan, Carson, Creeggan, Dunlop, Elliott,
Fair, Gaskin, Hardy, Herald, Meek, McLeod,
Oberndoffer, Robinson, Ryan, Skinner, Wilson,
Wright

The Clerk read the minutes of the last two meetings.

Communications were read and referred as follows:

From John Gourdy asking for a reduction of rent of
City Hall. Referred to the Committee on City Property.

From Robert Barry submitting his name for the position
of Sanitary Inspector - Filed.

From George Thompson Collector of Taxes. Re: Taxes
collected to date. Referred to the Finance Committee.

From W.H. Godwin, Secretary to Com: Fraternal
Societies asking the Council to declare the afternoon of Wednesday
June 10th a half holiday.

On motion of Al Meek seconded by Ald Oberndorffer
Ordered, that the Communicaiton of W.H. Godwin acting
for the fraternal Societies be received and that agreeable to its
request the afternoon of Wednesday June 15th be declared
a half holiday.

That the Mayor in issuing his proclamation request
the Merchants, Manufacturers and others to give their employees
an opportunity as members of the societies, the in the events of decoration
day.

From Messrs Brick & Booth asking remuneration for
the removal of an obstruction to navigation at the foot of West
Street. Referred to the Committee on Wharves and Harbors.

From Richard Brown and others Taxes - Referred to the
Court of Revision.

Petitions were presented and referred as follows:

From William Pipe and 111 others by Ald Skinner praying for the establishment
of a Free Library in this City under Act 45 Vic. Cap 22.
Referred to the Committee on Finance and Schools.

From John Muckleston and 8 others praying that a tile drain
be laid on King Street between Princess and Queen Streets &c, by Ald
Oberndorffer. Referred to the Committee on Streets &c.

From John Kidd and 5 others by Ald Wright asking for
removal of Board Walk on Sydenham Street between Queen and
Princess Streets.

On motion of Ald Wright seconded by Ald Creeggan.
Ordered, that the prayer of the petition of John Kidd
and others removing walk outside boulevard be granted.

From Robert Carson and 7 others by Ald Robinson asking to
remove Walk on Gordon Street outside Boulevard.
