On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald Drennan.
Ordered, that the Finance Committee be authorized
during the vacation to dispose of the debentures authorised
to be issued this year to the highest bidder.
On motion of Ald Curtis seconded by Ald Hardy.
Ordered, that a special Committee be formed
to ascertain what compensating if any of the Telegraph Companies
doing business here pay to this Corporation for the privileges
they receive from us, also if it would not be in the
interest of this City to mpose a business tax on all
banks doing business here in proportion to their paid
up capital - the Committe to be composed of Aldermen
Drennan, Behan, Gaskin and the mover and seconder.

On motion The Council adjourned.

Kingston July 18th 1892

A Special meeting of the Council of the Corporation of
the City of Kingston was held this day. Present:

His Worship, the Mayor
Aldermen:
Behan, Carson, Dunlop, Fair, Gaskin,
Meek, McLeod, Oberndoffer, Polson,
Robinson, Ryan, Wright

The Mayor stated the meeting was called to amend
By Laws and to take action Re: St John's Fire on
Communication Revd. M Houston.
Ald Gaskin moves, seconded by Ald McLeod.
That this Council forms itself into a relief
Committee for the purpose of giving the citizens of
Kingston an opportunity of unitedly expressing their
sympathy for the Citizens of St John's Newfoundland
and recommend that the Alderman of each ward [illegible] charge
of the subscription list in their own Ward and report as
quickly as possible to the Mayor who will kindly ask
as Chairman - also that the various churches be requested
to cooperate by raising money by subscription and
otherwise

In amendment 1st
Ald Meek moves seconded by Ald Dunlop
That the City Council grant the St John fire
sufferers $200 this sum to be the nucleus of the
relief fund to be forwarded by this City and private subscriptions.
