Kingston January 8th 1894

A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City
of Kingston was held this day. Present:

Aldermen:
McAulay, Carson, Gaskin, Hardy, Herald,
Horn, McIntyre, McKelvey, McLeod, C Robinson,
W Robinson, Ryan, Skinner, Wilson, Wright.

Alderman McKelvey was appointed Chairman

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings.

Communications were read and referred as follows:

From Robert McLean Secretary Underwriters Re:
attendance at Fires and a Report from Henry W Goulden
on the subject. Referred to the Committee on Fire, Water,
and Light.

From W.I.B. White, C.H. Martin, E. Godwin, W.H. Godwin,
W.S. Fair, J.L.A. McCann, John Hendry and S.B. McIver
Re: Insurance. Fyled.

From Shand and Mason London England Re:
Steam Fire Engine. Referred to the Committee on Fire,
Water and Light.

From Wm Smith Dy Minister of Marine & Fisheries
in the matter of Captain William Andrews Case. Fyled
and Clerk to send copy of letter to Capt. Andrews.

From B.M. Britten asking the City to continue
the exemption from Taxes of the Montreal Transportation
Company for a further term of ten years. Referred to the
Committee on Finance &c

From Richard T. Walkem, Chairman Board
of Health Re: Penitentiary sewage. Fyled.

Ald Behan here entered.

From Neil C Polson Mayor of Kingston
regretting being unable to meet the Council officially
before the close of his term and bidding them adieu.

On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald Hardy and
Resolved, That the members of the
Council for 1893 before the expiration of the
Municipal year desire to record their sincere regret
that His Worship Mayor Polson has been obliged
by the condition of his health to withdraw from the
active discharge of his official duties. It is the
earnest hope of every member that Mayor Polson will be
speedily restored to complete health and return at an early
day to resume with fresh vigor the direction of his business
and the discharge of his other duties so unhappily for a
time interrupted.
