From the City Clerk in reference to first clause of
Finance Report Re: Fees &c received.

From the Rev'd Dr Griffith asking to be allowed to
sell literature during the conference to be held here without
having to take out a transient Traders License. Referred to the
Finance Committee.

From Mrs McGee respecting taxes by Ald Gaskin.

From J. Knight by Ald McIntyre. Re: drainage
Victoria Street, Referred to the Board of Works.

The Mayor was authorized to fix a day for visiting
the Orphans Home on the invitation of Mrs R Waldron.

The Mayor stated there was a bill before the Ontario
Legislature respecting the increasing of the Membership
of Boards of Commissioners of Police.

On motion of Ald Ryan seconded by Ald W Robinson
Ordered, That this Council approve of the bill to increase
the Police Commissioners to five, two Aldermen to be appointed
by the Council of each Municipality.

Ald McKelvey moves seconded by Ald McIntyre
That the report number 4 of the Finance
Committee received at the last meeting of this Council
be now considered clause by clause.

In amendment
Ald Hardy moves seconded by Ald Meek
That we go into Committee of the Whole
to take up the report clause by clause which being
put was lost and the original motion was carried.

On motion of Ald Gaskin seconded by Ald McIntyre
Ordered, That the first clause of the Report
of the Committee on Finance and Accounts be adopted.

Ald Walkem moves seconded by Ald Hardy
That the appointment and dismissals
be made by the Chief of each Department to be approved
by the Council.

In amendment
Ald Ryan moves seconded by Ald Allen
That the words "with the approval of the Chief
of each Department be struck out and that the clause t
hus amended pass.
