the Revolution is just now on top, for while both the cream
and the scum rise to the top, there is much "saving grace" in
this scum. The Bolsheviki represent something a little better
than protoplasm. They are grown-up children, and children are
simple, selfish and savage, until they at least reach adol-
escence.

As to General Sosnowski's recommendation, I fear he is
premature; but the time is certainly coming when this seething
caldron will cease to boil over, and instead of merely wtaching
it at a distance it may be safe to approach nearer and take an
active part in arranging and ordering and disposing of its con-
tents.

Of course you know of the recent and sad death of
Charlie Mitchell. Bridges, Halsey and I went down from New
York. It was a terrible trip on a terrible Sunday. He is the
fourth of the class to die this fall, and the best to go.
