Queen's University October 15th 1880

The Senate met and was constituted.

Sederunt Principal Grant, Professors
Williamson, Mowat, Dupuis and Watson.

D.D. given to Messrs. Macrae & Nish[/margin]

The Principal intimated that at the request
of the Senate the Trustees had suspended
the regulation which prohibits the
Senate from conferring degrees except at the
close of the session. Whereupon the Senate having
previously made the necessary enquiries
resolved to confer and hereby do confer the
degree of Doctor of Divinity on the Rev. Donald
Macrae, M.A. minister of St Stephen's
Church, St John, NB and Moderator of the
Presbyterian Church in Canada, and on
the Rev James Nish, minister of St Andrews
Church, Sandhurst, Victoria.

The minutes of the meeting held on the
7th inst. were read and approved.

[margin]passing the Nov & Dec examinations
& matriculating[/margin]

It was agreed that all students who
pass the November and December monthly examinations
in any of the matriculation subjects
shall this session be held as having
passed the matriculation examination in
such subject or subjects.

[margin]anent the Bennett's application for BA[/margin]

There was read a letter from Prof Weir
bearing testimony to the high character of
the Rev. John Bennett as a man and as a
student during his attendance of four
years in the Arts department of Morrin College,
but stating that he had not passed
in any of the subjects required for the degrees
of BA at McGill College. Whereupon
