Marriage Settlement
26 April 1859 This indenture made the 26th day of April 1859 Between George Frederick
Campbell Bray a Captain in Her Majesty's 96th Regiment of Foot of the 1st
part Charlotte Frances Pope of Guildford in the County of Surrey Spinster
of the 2nd part and Edward William Bray a Captain in her Majesty's
83rd Regiment of Infantry Matthew Bell of Bourne Park near Canterbury
in the County of Kent Esquire and George Scovell a Captain in her Majesty's
79th Regiment of Infantry of the 3rd part Whereas the said Charlotte Frances
Pope is entitled to a sum of £2109.6.6 £3 per cent Consolidated Bank Annuities
which sum was lately standing in her own name in the Books of the
Governor and Company of the Bank of England And whereas under or by
virtue of the Will of the Venerable Edward Pope Archdeacon of Jamaica deceased
bearing date the 13th day of March 1843 and proved in the Prerogative Court
of the Archbishop of Canterbury on the 28th day of March 1855 the said Charlotte
Frances Pope will in case the she survives Augusta Pope the Relict of the said
Testator be entitled to a part or the whole of his plate as in the said Will is
mentioned And whereas a Marriage is intended shortly to be solemnized
between the said George Frederick Campbell Bray and Charlotte Frances
Pope And whereas upon the treaty for the said intended Marriage it
was agreed that the said Charlotte Frances Pope should transfer the said
sum of £2109.6.6 £3 per cent Consolidated Bank annuities and should assign
her said reversionary interest in the said plate respectively into the names
of and unto the said Edward William Bray Matthew Bell and George
Scovell and that they should be possessed thereof respectively upon and for
the trusts intents and purposed hereinafter declared concerning the same
respectively And whereas in pursuance of the said Agreement in this behalf
the said Charlotte Frances Pope with the privity of the said George Frederick
Campbell Bray testified by his executing these presents hath transferred
into the names of the said Edward William Bray Matthew Bell and
George Scovell in the proper books kept by the Governor and Company of the
Bank of England the said sum of £2109.6.6 £3 per cent Consolidated
Bank annuities And whereas upon the treaty for the said intended
Marriage it was also agreed that the said George Frederick Campbell Bray
should enter into the Covenant on his part herein after contained Now
this Indenture witnesseth that in pursuance of the said agreement
in this behalf and in consideration of the said intended Marriage the
said Charlotte Frances Pope with the privity of the said George Frederick
