A fine day. The boys
shucked corn the most of
they day. Hauled up one
load. Oscar Brumfield
com to see Ben a bout
sawing their wood. Lee
come for the saw.
The horses got to the
corn pile and eat a
lot. I hope it won't
hurt them.
The children went
to school. They had
a game played against
the Gretna boys.
Renan beat.
I got a new year
book today from
Lynchburg. Will and Effie
sent it. It is very
nice. I got a card
from Ervin Harvey
and Mrs. Kent. I am
glad to be remembered.

It sounds like they had a mechanical saw that may have been powered by a hit and miss engine and connected by a leather belt. You sometimes see equipment like that at fairs. At the Virginia state fair in the fall of 2013, I saw such an engine running an ice cream maker which is a whole lot safer than running a saw with no guard on it.
