...the lavatories and toilet rooms are as poorly
ventilated as the other rooms. The floors of
the lavatories have no drains, and while the Floors
of the toilets have drains they slope away
from rather than towards them. The woodwork
around the toilets are rapidly becoming [scaked?]
with urine and fecal matter. The offensive smell
in these rooms is sufficient proof that they
are failures from a sanitary standpoint.

"YOU WANT MORE?"

The amount of air space in these rooms is totally
inadequate for the number of berths therein. Allowing 500
cubic feet of air space for each individual, (the amount
required by the army in its barracks) the larger rooms would
accomodate 56 and the smaller ones 26 each. At present,
there are 204 and 192 bunks in the larger rooms,
and 60 each in the smaller ones. The spittoons in
this building are dirty and fly-infested. The
windows are barred and locked and there is
only one exit for all four dormitories. Built
of the most flammable material destruction
of the building in the case of a fire
would be but a question of minutes.
In a comparitively short time these rooms
will be unfit for habitation by reason of
vermin and stench.
