Re: The lost volune of Garf from Mexico.

Mr. Jacobson:

First to identify myself. I am C. L. (Luke) Severy, Class of
1908. Garfias was a good personal friend of mine over the years. I remember
the incident of Wentz hanging from the eaves of Encina Hall but I never knew
or at least remember who pulled him in. Being a geology and mining student with
four solid years of prescribed work right from the first class of the first
year I had no time or inclination to study the gnomes of little people of Ireland
which was Wentz's prime interest, so when Wentz made his big mistake I said to
myself"no wonder". Now I am sure I would be more tolerant.

I have read Garf's book. It was a bit racey in spots but since
it was published the New York stage and the Berkeley speech makers have used
more four letter words than Garf would dare to mention. Mrs. Fred Fowler 1908 (Elsie Branner) had the book and loaned it to me to read. you might be able
to purchase her copy from one of her sons who may have it now. I am sorry to
say the Elsie is incapacit{caret: "at"} and is in a rest home in Los Angeles and I understand
one of her sons lives near her. I think that would be John whos address
you probably can get from the Alumni directory. By now you probably have
purchased a copy or at least have had a dozen suggestions such as this one
as to where you might find one. Anyway good luck and Best regards

Yours sincerely,
