George Marchant was born at Stratford on the 6th August. His secondary education education was received at Ngatea District High ool where he passed the Senior Free Place examination. He played tball for his school first fifteen and was later a Hauraki Plains rugby hockey representative. Other sports of his were cricket and tennis. ter leaving school he engaged in general farm duties on his father's m at Ngatea. In March, 1941 he applied for war service in the .Z.A.F.

Flight Sergeant Marchant was enlisted for aircrew training on 4th April, 1942, at the Initial Training Wing, Rotorua, and (redacted was) posted the 13th June, to No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School, Taieri, to mence flying training. While here this training was discontinued he was posted to R.N.Z.A.F. station, Rongotai, where on the 3rd April he was remustered to air observer under training and posted back to torua. On the 31st October, (redacted 1942) he embarked for Canada for training der the Empire Air Training Scheme.

Shortly after his arrival in Canada Flight Sergenat Marchant posted on the 7th December, 1942 to No. 3 Air Observers School, Pearce. berta, and while here on the 2nd April, 1943 he was awarded his air avigator's badge and promoted to sergeant. Later, when overseas on 2nd October, 1943 he was promoted to flight sergeant. Meanwhile, on the 4th April, 1943 he had proceeded to No. 1 "Y" Depot, Halifax, Nova Scotia, await embarkation for the United Kingdom.

Having arrived in England on the 30th June, 1943 Flight Sergeant archant (redacted was held) remained at No. 12 Personnel Reception Centre, Brighton, until osted on the 31st August, (redacted 1943) to No. 1 Radio School, Cranwell, Lincolnshire. trained (redacted remained) here until the 27th February, 1944 when he was posted to No. 3 School of General Reconniassance, Squires Gate, Lancashire.
