No. 295 Squadron at Netheravon, Wiltshire. With this squadron he took part in a large number of training flights, including Horsa glider towing and paratroop and container dropping flights. He also took part in 5 operational sorties over enemy territory to Rouen, Lille, Orleans and Portiers, in France.

F/Sgt. Marshall was the wireless operator air gunner of a Halifax aircraft engaged on an operational flight over enemy territory on the night of the 19/20th February, 1943. The aircraft failed to return to its base and all the crew, including F/Sgt. Marshall, were classified as missing. Later a report was received from a German source that F/Sgt. Marshall was killed and in consequence he was reclassified to missing, believed killed in action. In due course his death was presumed to have occurred on the 20th February, 1943. A post war investigation disclosed that the aircraft crashed near Distre and all the members of the crew were killed. F/Sgt. Marshall was buried in the cemetery Saumur, France.
