and Danzig in Poland. All these were night attacks but he also carried out daylight surprise attacks on Lingen and Leer in Germany. In addition he participated in minelaying sorties in Brest harbour, in the Kattegat and in Danzis Bay.

On the 15th October, 1942, Pilot Officer Marshall was navigator of a Lancaster heavy bomber engaged in a bombing attack on Cologne. The aircraft failed to return to its base and all the members of the crew including Pilot Officer Marshall were classified as missing. Later, information was received from the International Red Cross that Pilot Officer Marshall had lost his life and he wsa, in consequence re-classified as missing believed killed in action. Due time having elapsed his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 15th October 1942 as the result of air operations. Subsequently, information was received that Pilot Officer Marshall had been buried in the British cemetery at Uden, 14 miles east of S'Hertogenbosch, South Holland.
