S/Ldr. Medwin was posted on the 15th October, 1944 to No. 2 Group Support Unit, first at Swanton Morley and later at Fersfield, both in Norfolk. On the 5th January, 1945, he was posted to 487 (NZ) Squadron, Thorney Island, Hampshire, and recommenced operational flying. After completing 2 night operations in a Mosquito fighter bomber to No. 487 Squadron moved on the 5th February, 1945, to Rosires-en-Santen, France. From the aerodrome in France he carried out a further 8 operational flights, bringing his total of operational flights to 43.

S/Ldr. Medwin was a member of the crew of a Mosquito fighter bomber which struck a telegraph post just after take off on the night of the 6th April, 1945 and S/Ldr. Medwin and the other member of the crew were both killed. He was buried with full Military Honours at the Anzac Cemetery at Villers Brettoneux, France.

The other member of the crew was F/Lt. A.J. Coe of Christchurch.
