this, he was posted on the 3rd April 1944 to No. 3 Tactical Exercise Unit, Annan, Scotland. His training completed, he was posted on the 2nd June, 1944 to No. 198 Squadron, Thorney Island, Hampshire. With this squadron as pilot of a Typhoon rocket fighter he took part in one hundred and one operational flights comprising seventy-three low level attacks on enemy objectives, and twenty-eight armed reconnaissance flights.

On the 8th December, 1944, Flying Officer Milich was pilot of a Typhoon fighter detailed to carry out attacks on German Headquarters at Amersfoort, Holland. Immediately after the attack he called up on the radio to say that his engine was giving trouble. When he failed to return ot his base he was classified as missing. Due time having elapsed, his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 8th December 1944 as the result of air operations.

In November 1945, advice was received that Flying Officer Milich has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the citation reading as follows:-

"Flying Officer Milich has been responsible for the destruction of many enemy tanks, motor transports and railway trucks and several gun positions. He has led his section on many occasions with considerable success, often against very heavy defences. He took a creditable part in the battle of the Falaise Gap and has since participated in close support of the army at Le Havre, Bologne and Calais, and in the freezing of the port of Antwerp. On several occasions Flying Officer Milich's aircraft had sustained damaged from anti-aircraft fire, but, despite this he had always pressed home his attacks with vigour and determination."

Subsequent to the cessation of hostilities it was established that Flying Officer Milich had been buried in the Parish Cemetery to Woodenberg, Holland.
