and finally to Montecorvino in Italy. From these bases as pilot first of Hurricane and afterwards of Spitfire fighter aircraft he took part in one hundred and ten operational flights, bringing his total to one hundred and eighteen. These comprised bomber escort flights, convoy patrols, scrambles, air sea rescue flights, patrols of the Bizerta area, over Naples, Montecorvini and Northern Italy.

Pilot Officer Millar was the pilot of a Spitfire aircraft engaged on a sweep over Northern Italy on the 27th November 1943. The aircraft was seen to dive into the sea approximately three miles from Genoa and Pilot Officer Miller was classified as missing. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 27th November 1943.

After the cessation of hostilities a search of the area concerned failed to disclose any trace of the aircraft or of Pilot Officer Millar's body and it was assumed that he had lost his life at sea.
