Jeffery Millar was born in Auckland on April 19th 1920 and received his secondary education at the Seddon Memorial Technical College and the Auckland Polytechnic School, passing the P. & T. Entrance Examination. His sports were cricket and swimming. For a short period he was a member of the North Auckland Mounted Rifles in the Territorial Forces. At the time of making application for War Service in Air Crew on June 9th 1941 he was employed by the Post and Telegraph Department, Auckland, as a postman.

He was enlisted on May 30th 1942 and engaged on Aerodrome Defence duties at Waipapkauri. In August he was posted to Rotorua where he was remustered to Air-Observer. He embarked for Canada under the Empire Air Training Scheme on December 24th 1942.

On his arrival in Canada he proceeded to No. 5 Air Observers School, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on January 7th 1943 where he was awarded the Navigator's Badge on May 14th and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was further promoted to Pilot Officer on May 20th 1944 and to Flying Officer on November 20th 1944. Meanwhile he proceeded to the United Kingdom in June 1943.

On his arrival at No. 12 Personnel Reception Centre, Brighton, he was posted a fortnight later to No. 4 (Officers) Advanced Flying Unit, thence a month later to No. 10 Operational Training Unit, Abingdon, Berkshire. On October 26th he was transferred to No. 1658 Conversion Unit, Riccall. In March, 1944 he was posted to North Africa where he was attached to No. 624 Squadron, based at (redacted). He returned to the United Kingdom early in January 1945.

Flying Officer Millar proceeded on February 15th to the Aircrew Allocation Centre from where he was posted to No. 11 Operational Training Unit, Oakley in March, 1945.

Flying Officer Millar was a member of the crew of a Wellington bomber aircraft, which collided in mid-air with another bomber over the Oakley Aerodrome, near Aylesbury on April 16th, 1945, all the crew, including Flying Officer Millar, losing their lives in the accident. He was buried in the Regional Cemetery, Oxford, England.
