Gordon Miller was born at Woodville on the 20th December 1919. He received his secondary education at the Masterton Technical College. After having left College he played football for the Masterton Club. At the time of applying for enlistment in aircrew, on the 10th March, 1941, he was employed by Thos. Borthwick & Sons Ltd., at Masterton.

Sergeant Miller was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin on the 30th November 1941 and proceeded to No. 2 Elementary Flying Training School, New Plymouth on the 10th January 1942 to commence his flying training, then on the 7th April to No. 1 Service Flying Training School, Wigram. Here on the 11th June he was awarded the flying badge and on the 5th September promoted to the rank of Sergeant, afterwards embarking on the 10th September for the United Kingdom.

Sergeant Miller arrived at No. 3 Personnel Reception Centre, Bournemouth on the 20th November and remained there until the 1st January 1943 when he proceeded to No. 9 Elementary Flying Training School, Ansty, Coventry, then on the 19th January to No. 12 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit, Grantham, Lincolnshire for conversion to and training on Blenheim aircraft. On the 16th March he was posted to No. 51 Operational Training Unit, Cranfield, Buckinghamshire and trained on Beaufighter aircraft.

Sergeant Miller was the pilot of a Beaufighter aircraft engaged on a training flight on the 6th May, 1943 and which crashed near Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, Sergeant losing his life. He was buried in the Cemetery at Kempston, Bedfordshire.
