With this Squadron as Pilot of a Spitfire aircraft, he took part in sixteen operational flights comprising seven operational patrols, three fighter sweeps, four flights affording escorts to bombers and two air sea rescue flights.

Sergeant Miller was the Pilot of a Spitfire aircraft engaged on the 19th August, 1941, as part of a formation, in providing top cover to our bombers, operating against the power station at Gosnay in France. After a combat with enemy aircraft near the French Coast, Sergeant Miller failed to return to base, and was classified as missing. No information concerning him was received from any source, and in due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 19th August, 1941.
