air operations and failed to return to its base. All members of the crew were classified as missing and later on receipt of information from the International Red Cross quoting a German source, that all members of the crew had lost their lives on the 30th June, Sergeant Moncrief was reclassified to missing believed killed. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 30th June, 1942.

A post war casualty search revealed that the aircraft crashed over Westdongeradeel, Holland, and that Sergeant Moncrief was buried in the Holwerd Cemetery, Friesland, Holland.

Other New Zealanders included in the crew of the aircraft were Pilot Officer W.J. Monk of Wellington, Sergeant M.G. McGregor of Wanganui, Sergeant D.H. Randle of Dunedin, and Flight Sergeant G.G. Hegan of Christchurch.
