Mooney, were classified a missing. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 17th April, 1943.

A post-war casualty search revealed that the aircraft had crashed at Seumhof near Oggersheim, and that Pilot Officer Mooney was buried in the Main Cemetery at Ludwigshaven. After the cessation of hostilities his remains were re-interred in the Bad Toolz (Durbach) British Military Cemetery, Germany.
