Peter Morey was born at Eketahuna on June 9th 1919 and received his secondary education at Wellington College and afterwards attended Wellington Technical College for three years night school. At the time of his making application for War Service in Aircrew on June 16th 1940 he was employed as a motor driver by Levin and Company Limited Wellington.

Sergeant Morey was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin, on May 4th as Airman-Pilot under training. He was posted on June 14th to Taieri for his elementary training, proceeding to Wigram for his service training on July 26th 1941. Here he was awarded his Flying Badge on September 6th and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on October 18th 1941. He was posted to Singapore shortly afterwards where he was selected to fly fighter aircraft. Due to Japan's entry into the War and the shortage of aircraft he was unable to do his conversion course and returned to New Zealand in March, 1942. After a short period of leave he proceeded to Levin for a refresher course on Oxford aircraft. On May 19th he was transferred to No. 2 General Reconnaissance Squadron, Nelson. He was posted to New Plymouth on November 3rd, 1942.

Sergeant Morey lost his life on December 7th 1942 when the aircraft of which he was the pilot, crashed into the sea between Waitara and Taharoa, drowining the occupant. Sergeant Morey was buried in Wellington.
