41993 Sergeant John Gilbert MORGAN.

John Morgan was born in Wellington on October 25th 1919, and received his secondary education at Wellington Technical College. Later, he attended Gilby's College and Banks Commerical College. His school sports were Association football and tennis. At the time of making an application for War Service in aircrew on July 27th, 1940, he was employed as a clerk by Electrolux Ltd. Wellington.

Sergeant Morgan was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin on the 9th February 1941 and was posted to Harewood on March 23rd, for his elementary flying training. He embarked for Canada on May 26th, 1941 under the Empire Training Scheme.

On arrival in Canada he proceeded to No. 10 Service Flying School, Dauphin, Manitoba on June 16th. He was remustered to Wireless Operator/Air Gunner on July 23rd on posting to Trenton, Ontario, and early in August reported to No. 3 Wireless School, Winnipeg. He proceeded to No. 2 Bombing and Gunnery School, Mossbank Saskatchewan on March 16th, 1942, where he was awarded the Air Gunners Badge and promoted to the rank of Sergeant, on April 13th. The following day he departed for No. 1 "Y" Depot, Halifax, Nova Scotia for embarkation to the United Kingdom.

Sergeant Morgan arrived in England on May 23rd, and after a period at No. 3 Personnel Reception Centre, Bournemouth, he was posted on a Gunners Course, to the Royal Air Force Station, Stormy Down, on July 15th, thence to No. 11 Operational Training Unit, Bassingbourn, early in August. In November he was transferred to No. 466 Squadron, Leconfield, East Yorkshire.
