On the 26th August 1944 he was attached to No. 21 (Pilots) Advanced Flying Unit, Perton, Staffordshire, while awaiting posting on the 19th September (redacted 1944) to No. 132 Operational Training Unit, East Fortune, East Lothian, Scotland, to train on Beaufighter fighter aircraft, completing this training however at No. 5 Operational Training Unit, Turnberry, Ayrshire, Scotland. On the 6th February 1945 he was posted to No. 489 Squadron, Dallachy, Morayshire, Scotland, and commenced operational flying. With this Squadron as Pilot of a Beaufighter fighter he engaged in seven operational flights comprising five armed reconnaissance flights and two shipping strikes.

Flying Officer Morrison was Pilot of a Beaufighter fighter aircraft which took off on the 26th April 1945 ot carry out an armed reconnaissance over the Skagerrak. The aircraft failed to return to its base and both Flying Officer Morrison and the other occupant of the aircraft were classified as missing. Due time having elapsed, Flying Officer Morrison's death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 26th April 1945 as the result of air operations.

The other occupant of the aircraft was Warrant Officer F.R. Wilkinson of Christchurch.
