P/O Morse was captain of a Wellington bomber aircraft which took off from Methwold on the 8th April, 1942, on an operational raid over (redacted enemy territory) Hamburg in Germany. The aircraft failed to return to its base and all the crew, including P/O Morse, were reported missing. Subsequently P/O Morse was officially presumed dead.
One other New Zealander was included in the crew of the aircraft, F/Sgt. G.H. Vogan of Canterbury.
