On 28th March, 1945 he was pilot of a Corsair aircraft providing cover to a flying boat when he collided in mid-air with another machine in the formation. He was seen to bale out successfully but and immediate and intensive search failed to find any trace of him.

"He was highly thought of by all members of his squadron and by all officers and men at this base - a good officer who will be hard to replace."
