This was followed by his posting on the 10th March, 1942 to No. 17 Operational Training Unit, Upwood, Huntingdonshire, to crew-up and complete his training on Blenheim bomber aircraft. On the 27th May, 1942 he was posted to No. 18 Squadron, Wattisham, Suffolk, and commenced operational flying with this squadron as navigator of a Blenheim bomber he took part in two intruder raids against Leevarden and Venlo both in Holland.

From a third operational flight undertaken on the night of the 2/3rd July, 1942 to attack the aerodrome at St. Trond, Belgium, his aircraft failed to return to its base and all members of its crew including Pilot Officer Morton were classified as missing. Due time having elapsed his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 3rd July, 1942 as the result of air operations.
