428827 Sergeant Albert Lewis MOSS.

Albert Moss was born in Oamaru, Otago, on December 22nd 1913 and received his secondary education at the Waitaki Boys' High School, afterwards attending Otago University for Associate Otago School of Mines examination. His sports at Waitaki High School included football, cricket, tennis and athletics and he was later a member of the Otago University Harrier team. His civilian occupation was that of a mining engineer and prior to his enlistment he was employed in Singapore on tin and gold prospecting by the General Mining Agency. On returning to New Zealand in January, 1941 from overseas he was engaged by the Aerodrome Service Branch of the Public Works Department, Wellington.

Sergeant Moss was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Rotorua, on July 23rd, 1942 and was posted to Taieri for his elementary flying training on September 5th. He was awarded his Flying Badge at Wigram on November 28th and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on April 9th 1943.

In June 1943 Sergeant Moss proceeded to Whenuapai where he embarked for Fiji on June 6th with No. 4 Bomber Squadron.

Sergeant Moss was the member of the crew of Hudson aircraft missing on anti-submarine patrol from Nausori on June 27th, 1943. No further information was ever received and all the crew, including Sergeant Moss were presumed to have lost their lives in the sea on the above date.
